An amazing debut novel from Chris McQueer. Absolutely chilling story about a troubled lonely teen who gets sucked into incel culture and his struggling mother told from both perspectives. Heavily recommended.

A truly great debut - McQueer has somehow threaded the needle of portraying the unremittingly grim reality of inceldom and the manosphere while treating his characters with clear-eyed empathy, and suffusing the whole book with a rich, dark vein of comedy. Not always an easy read, but a necessary one.

Both dark and shocking, and hopeful and uplifting. McQueer presents an exciting debut novel which follows Jamie Skelton, a nineteen year-old recluse, as he is led down a dangerous path into incel subculture. An incredibly engaging insight into loneliness, isolation, and the ways online communities prey on such people.

I picked this up knowing nothing about it but that the premise (and the cover) piqued my interest. I’m mightily glad I did! What a heart-wrenching, brilliantly compelling and ambitious novel. Chris McQueer has captured what is arguably a very serious topic - incel culture - yet has managed to make it very accessible. (It does come with a few trigger warnings). A bold, daring and captivating read.
