Reviews: How to Fall (2)
“A guilty pleasure”
(Paperback)
I fairly raced through this delightful crime novel for young adults. When Jess decides to investigate her cousin's death by drowning, she finds that nothing is as it seems. Jealousy, secrecy, gang rivalry and romance all get in the way and, not knowing whom she can trust, she takes an enormous risk to find some answers. The perfect holiday page-turner.
“If you like mysteries...”
(Paperback)
...you'll love this Nancy Drew style story. When Jess visits her mother's family for the first time in her life she is determined to solve the mystery behind her cousin Freya's death. Adamant that Freya didn't commit suicide, Jess spends the story trying to find out whether it was accidental death or whether she was murdered.
I didn't like Jess's character; for me she seemed a little bit unrealistic as, despite the fact she had never met anyone from her mother's family in her life or ever visited the town where they lived, in her first week of visiting she was making demands of everyone as to their knowledge of Freya's death and proclaiming her capabilities to discover the truth behind the accident. Even though Jess is portrayed as a strong independent female, she just seemed cocky and obstinate. Despite that, she certainly adds character to an already good crime story, making it even better to read.
This book is great for fans of mystery and murder, who like a little bit of romance as well. I am really enjoying reading teen fiction written by adult fiction authors such as John Grisham and Harlan Coben and now, Jane Casey.
