Reviews: In Trees (1)
“In-Tree-Guing”
(Hardback)
by Dan Brass
This wonderful book is so much more than I was expecting it to be. At its core, this is a book about trees in all their grandeur and importance, but what sets In Trees apart from other nature books are the diverse, intertwining paths from with Robert Moor approaches his subject matter. From the spiritual freedom that comes with climbing trees, to the philosophically dense world of bonsai, and to less-than-literal trees (a notable example: our family trees, forever branching out and twining together), Robert Moor explores his subject matter from angles that are refreshing and genuinely unique. This is definitely a nature book, but it is also so much more than a nature book. Its chapters and subjects bind together like intertwining branches, creating a varied yet coherent picture. Ultimately, it gives trees the reverence and respect they deserve by treating them exactly as they are: as complex, as vulnerable, and as a world unto themselves.
