Reviews: King and Maxwell (2)
“A Fantastic Thriller”
(Paperback)
King and Maxwell was the seventh edition in the King and Maxwell series by David Baldacci and was first published in 2013. It is now also a TV adaptation if you have seen it forget about the tv series that was rubbish and nowhere near as good as the books.
Sean King and Michelle Maxwell were driving back from the farm where Edgar Roy lived. Roy is slowly rebuilding his life and Maxwell was recovering from her injuries. They are on the freeway and there is poor visibility due to heavy rain and King did not almost see the boy. The boy is running somewhere and away from something, and Maxwell takes after him slip sliding in the mud but does eventually catch him. They discover that the boy, Tyler Wingo, had just been informed that his father had been killed Afghanistan and not long after Tyler receives an email from her supposedly dead father. Wingo asks King and Maxwell to help him find the truth. It soon becomes clear that they have walked into something that is not going to be easy to unravel.
It is not easy for King and Maxwell to progress in the investigation as the alphabet soup of American agencies keep interfering. They rapidly work out that they cannot trust very many people and it will hard work trusting one as it seems not everybody is pulling in the same direction as there seems to be some private contractors involved also. The private contractor seems to be making matters worse for King and Maxwell. It does not help either of them when the president wishes to be kept informed.
This is an engrossing thriller with the story building up to a crescendo. Baldacci is an extraordinary storyteller whose writing is so engaging.
“Baldacci on form”
(Paperback)
This is exactly the kind of Baldacci book I enjoy. Tension throughout!
I do still prefer the camel club series, however the King and Maxwell series is not far behind it.
Recommended.
Loved the JAWS reference, quite comical!
