I read this several years ago and even then I got the sense that this book was ahead of its time. It has only been in the last 5 years that talk of such experimentation has been discussed, albeit on a much, much lesser scale. The science fiction in the book is superb and today I can see the results of such inspirational ideas. The story teller provides a fabulous twist in the tale. I haven't as yet read the sequel, however, a fellow Sci-fi nerd says it is just a little bit disappointing. I shall have to see for myself.

I read this ages and ages ago and came accross it while i was searching for my next science fiction fix! I remeber it was very well writiien and that i enjoyed it very much. Not one of my favs. But it well worth a read. If you get it i hope you enjoy :) It's about an experiement to get men on mars and how they engineer people to survive on the surface with few ill effects. It's about the emotional background to what this entails (becoming a monster after being normal) and how it effects those around you.
