Reviews: Meat Bees (3)
“Death my meat bees.. need I say more?”
(Paperback)
by Polly Jones
10/10 for the creepy cover, it's what initially drew me to requesting the ARC ✨ This is labelled as adult but I felt it read more on the YA side, not in a bad way though! It's just our MFC Scarlett, who is 15/16, very much thinks like a 15/16 year old. At the start, I wasn't sure as her attitude grated on me but then when we find out more about her and take into account her age, I could forgive her for putting up walls and making questionable decisions. There was some cringy dialogue, but aren't we all cringey at that age? I really enjoyed seeing her grow and take back control of her life, and the relationships she built with her new friends and dad were very touching. I also very much enjoyed the layout of the book, the days as chapters with time stamps made it feel fast-paced and easy to fly through. Plus, the single POV’s dotted throughout from various characters (or entities, should I say!) helped add to our understanding of what was unfolding, although I wish these had been built on more, and they were so good. Heavy themes are discussed, including mental health, children in caregiving roles and obviously death by meat bees

I detest bees and wasps at the best of times...Anyway, thanks Net Galley for the eARC!If you didn't already dislike wasps, this book will have your skin crawling. A bit of a slow burn to start but picks up around half way through and keeps you hooked right till the end. You'll definitely start being more aware of all the little things buzzing past your ears... Another one I'm looking forward to adding to the shelves once it's out in print

“Wow”

Meat Bees by new to me author Dane Erbach published by Clash Books is a fantastic read with a twist. I can't stand to look at the cover - if you wanted me to make uncomfortable - goal achived. But back to the story. Horror of its finest, dark, darker, darkest. Writing is fantastic, storyline unique and literally unputdownable. Fans of horror - that's your book.
