Lives up to the mystery standards of her other books. The quirky characters, the clever plots, the evoking of the era - just what one expects. Recommend highly.

Daphne King, investigative reporter who solves the crimes the police cannot, is all started when she was at school at Midwinter Academy for girls, where she not only rescued a kidnapped fellow pupil but also caught a thief. Now she is back in Midwinter for a school reunion and strange things are happening, dead frogs, strange notes and then one of her friends is dead. An exciting tale and a very good read. I wasn't keen on ada's first book but the two books featuring daphne king were better, not perfect but better. Unfortunately this third outing for daphne has slipped back into the excesses of the first book. The plot is weak and slow with characters that don't really come alive. The book is also very overwritten. It's trying to hard to emulate the golden age of crime and it falls flat trying to do so. I really didn't think this very good and this will be the last of this author's books I read. Others may enjoy this so feel free to try it yourself and disagree with me.
