This is a bit of a slower burn, character driven book but also has a doozy of a crime to be investigated. Our main character, Izzy, has an unusual ability. That of knowing when someone is lying. This has been more of a curse than a blessing as there are many incidents during her life where it has caused chaos. Her father's infidelity, a problem with a classmate, and others I will leave you to discover as the author intends. So when she watches an interview with her old school caretaker, her spidey senses are piqued when he lies about something quite key to the case. The case being the abduction of young girls. So, she goes to the police, as anyone with evidence would. Obviously she is not taken seriously, and she is so sure of what she knows, so she again does what anyone else would do (probably), she takes matters into her own hands... at her own peril... I've read a lot by this author and I do love his style. Stand alones and the Nathan Cody series have all been top notch. I really should try his other series - so little time - so I was quite excited to get my hands on this book, and it didn't disappoint. I took to Izzy right from the start. There are quite a few layers to her as a character as when we first meet her she is quite a simple soul but then when we delve deeper, peel back each layer, as she becomes more rounded, she also becomes more complicated, with more pain in her past. Which makes what she does all the more special. Especially the old couple in the bookstore where she works... The crime itself is well plotted and that plot expertly executed. It had me spinning around trying to cut through the secrets & lies to get to the truth. Which, when it came, shocked and thoroughly satisfied me. All in all, another winner from an author now cemented on my watch list. Roll on next time.

Yet again. David Jackson has written another absolutely brilliant read. This author is fast becoming one of favourites. I don’t even read the blurb for his books anymore I just want to read the book. No secrets is basically a crime thriller and it’s one which had me totally engrossed from the very start. A dark and gritty crime thriller and as is the norm with this author some dark humour thrown in at times. Highly recommend.

23-year-old Izzy Lambert lives a quite life with her partner Andy and works at a local bookshop. Since she was born, she thinks she is cursed, or some say that she has a gift. She can read peoples emotions and can tell when someone is lying. So, when she sees a news report on the TV regarding a woman going missing and the last person to see her is the Janitor from the school, she attended 5 years previously Kenneth Plumley. Telling the reporter that he seen her getting into a car. Izzy’s gift’ takes hold and she senses that he is lying. Izzy gets in contact with the Police and tells her about her gift and said that they need to investigate Kenneth Plumley as he is lying and maybe somehow involved. But the Police don’t believe her, as she has no evidence to support her claim, so she takes it on herself and find out what really is going on. Can Kenneth Plumley be involved in the woman’s disappearance? How much time before someone else goes missing? No secrets by David Jackson is the third book from the author I have read and what a great page turner this is. This is a fast paced, gritty thriller and I like the protagonist Izzy who went the extra mile to find out the truth. I found the ending to be intense and a quite surprising twist. 5 stars from me.

I am a huge fan of David Jackson’s books. My obsession started with his DS Nathan Cody series and has continued with his more recent standalone thrillers. Jackson is an exceptional writer and getting my mitts on his latest release is both a priority and a highlight of my reading year. So I was over the moon to receive a copy of Jackson’s latest novel, the brilliant No Secrets. Izzy Lambert has a gift. Or, as Izzy sees it, a curse. She’s been highly empathic since birth. Able to tell when those she is familiar with are lying. Knowing secret things about family, friends and work colleagues she just shouldn’t know. But when she sees someone she used to spend time with at school on the news, talking about the disappearance of a young woman, she immediately knows he isn’t telling the truth. He knows a lot more than he’s letting on. Pushed by her partner Andy, Izzy turns to the police and to DS Josh Frendy to report her suspicions. But Frendy doesn’t believe her and there’s no evidence to prove what Izzy is saying is true. Determined to save the missing girl Izzy makes it her mission to prove she’s right. She’ll stop at nothing, particularly when it becomes personal. The deeper Izzy digs, the more convinced she becomes. But at what cost…? No Secrets is a brilliantly written thriller with a fascinating protagonist which gave it a bit of an edge over other books in the same genre. I really liked Izzy. It can’t be easy being her, that’s for sure. I loved her tenacity, her determination to get to the truth no matter what. I sympathised with her as she came up against brick wall after brick wall, dead end after dead end. I was as frustrated as Izzy was, which I think is the mark of a very talented writer. Writing likable, believable lead characters who feel real to the reader is something Jackson does time and time again. Many of the other characters in the book were quite horrible, very unlikable. They really wound me up at times and I absolutely loved it. Although I did find myself unexpectedly sympathising with one particular character when perhaps I really shouldn’t have! The plot is well paced and grips the reader from the get-go. It’s a truly chilling read at times but Jackson’s trademark humour is ever present, adding a number of lighter moments to proceedings. But the darkness prevails and I enjoyed exactly how twisted things become for Izzy on her hunt for the truth. The ending, after a major revelation which left me reeling, was incredibly tense and I was completely absorbed in this clever story. Would I recommend this book? I would, yes. No Secrets is a gripping, thrilling, twisty read which I really enjoyed losing myself in. The characters are all very well-written, you’ll love some and loathe others. The plot is perfectly paced with lots of tension and suspense, keeping the reader turning the pages late into the night, desperate to find out if anyone will ever believe poor Izzy! All in all, this is a standout story from a hugely talented author. I love what Jackson has done with this book. I desperately want to say more but run the risk of sharing something I shouldn’t so I won’t elaborate further, but trust me on this one, you need to read No Secrets. Compelling, creepy and oh so good! You really can’t go wrong with a David Jackson thriller. Highly recommended.

4.5 rounded up A chilling game of ‘Simon Says’, Izzy who works in a bookshop who has highly developed empathetic qualities and a school caretaker, Kenneth Plumley who Izzy KNOWS is lying. Can she convince DS Josh Frendy that she is telling the truth? Wow. This is my first read by David Jackson and it certainly won’t be the last as he sure can write an exciting thriller. I love the Izzy angle and she’s a really good character who tries to do the right thing. There are some great scenes between her and Josh who is also very likeable and with terrific dialogue to boot! The book has some excellent settings especially the bookshop Izzy works in, one particularly lively one! This is a twisted and twisted tale that is very well written, it’s lively, fast paced and very intense at times making it a hard novel to put down. The tension is almost off the scale in places as a dangerous and blood freezing game of cat and mouse ensues. I do begin to suss it all out but I have to admit only just before the final suspenseful denouement! Overall, a well plotted and pacy mystery thriller and one to recommend to fans of the genre.
