“No Secrets”
(Paperback)
by Ashrae
This is a bit of a slower burn, character driven book but also has a doozy of a crime to be investigated. Our main character, Izzy, has an unusual ability. That of knowing when someone is lying. This has been more of a curse than a blessing as there are many incidents during her life where it has caused chaos. Her father's infidelity, a problem with a classmate, and others I will leave you to discover as the author intends. So when she watches an interview with her old school caretaker, her spidey senses are piqued when he lies about something quite key to the case. The case being the abduction of young girls. So, she goes to the police, as anyone with evidence would. Obviously she is not taken seriously, and she is so sure of what she knows, so she again does what anyone else would do (probably), she takes matters into her own hands... at her own peril... I've read a lot by this author and I do love his style. Stand alones and the Nathan Cody series have all been top notch. I really should try his other series - so little time - so I was quite excited to get my hands on this book, and it didn't disappoint. I took to Izzy right from the start. There are quite a few layers to her as a character as when we first meet her she is quite a simple soul but then when we delve deeper, peel back each layer, as she becomes more rounded, she also becomes more complicated, with more pain in her past. Which makes what she does all the more special. Especially the old couple in the bookstore where she works... The crime itself is well plotted and that plot expertly executed. It had me spinning around trying to cut through the secrets & lies to get to the truth. Which, when it came, shocked and thoroughly satisfied me. All in all, another winner from an author now cemented on my watch list. Roll on next time.
“A great thriller”

Izzy Lambert has an distinctive ability to read a person and know if they are telling the truth or a lie. This has not been a blessing for Izzy, rather a curse, causing much pain to those around her. But after discovering that a young girl has gone missing from her old high school and watching her old caretaker report a recent sighting of Rosie getting into a car, Izzy is absolutely certain that Kenneth Plumley is not telling the truth. Izzy is torn with what to do and decides she must go to the police with this information, but having no evidence she finds herself being ridiculed and not taken seriously. Having no other option, Izzy feels it is her duty to investigate further and find the evidence that the police need to take her claims seriously, putting not only herself but her family and friends in danger, No Secrets is a cat-and-mouse chase for the truth. I was routing for Izzy to find the evidence needed but also had my doubts about whether her intuition was correctly. I adored Detective Sergeant Josh Frendy and his unrelenting patience with Izzy. Jackson definitely knows how to create a host of characters that are three-dimensional. His use of suspense and gore adds to the tension of novel and just when you think you have everything sussed the twists and turns change your perception of everything that has come before. A very clever, engaging read which I thoroughly enjoyed. Another Viper classic, the hits just keep on coming. If you love a good thriller then I highly recommend

“Addictive reading”

No Secrets By David Jackson David Jackson is different. His books are addictive, his stories are imaginative. He thinks outside the box and this makes his books page turners. No secrets tell the tale of Izzy, who's gift is reading peoples emotions and the ability to tell when someone is lying. When the caretaker of her former school appears on TV as a potential witness to the abduction of a young girl, Izzy knows instantly that he is not telling the truth and so our story begins. This is a great read. The writing is good, all the characters are well fleshed out and this is a super cat and mouse thriller. I flew through this book and couldn't put it down. It was in my hands every spare moment I had. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrillers. Well worth your time and hard-earned cash.
