One Split Second Author: Caroline Bond Publisher: Corvus Publication Date: 4/6/2020 This book should be compulsory reading for all young people about to start driving An emotional, and sometimes harrowing, portrayal of the aftermath of a car crash and the impact on all of those involved. Well written and researched and extremely believable, it was, at times, a difficult read but one well worth it. I’d like to thank the author, publisher and netgalley for providing me with this advance digital copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased review review. Highly recommended.

The story tells us how different members of the same community are affected after the car accident involving 5 local teenagers. The grief, the guilt, the blame, the punishment, the forgiveness, the shame and many more emotions were spilling off the pages of this well written and gripping novel. Because of the number of characters in the story at the beginning I had trouble connecting and understanding who is who and how they are involved but after a few chapters all fell in places and I was immersed into the story and couldn't wait to find out how things were going to evolve to each of them. The characters were developed in great depth and felt real, relatable and lovable. It was a very emotional but moving story and the way the story was executed it gave me a lot of Beartown by F Backman vibes. Intriguing and provoking read, sad in places but at the same time full of hope. Would recommend reading it and I'll be definitely looking out for more from this author.

A group of close friends out for a fun night out....how it can all change in "one split second". A fetal accident quickly changes this. Really shows how it affected so many people in different ways. It was a brilliant book. A real rollercoaster of emotions. Fran and marcus...oh I felt so bad for how they were both feeling. I can only imagine how hard it must of been for them. And Harry....i felt his pain. It really captures every single emotion from all involved. It was written so well, really pulls you in. I've given four stars instead of five as I felt some parts dragged a little, but i did have time away around half way through the book, so this could be why. Still I do highly recommend it.

I absolutely loved this book, although the subject matter was difficult at times the excellent character development and the resulting relationship this builds between the reader and the characters keeps you turning the pages. I read this in a 24 hour period and really struggled to put it down. One moment in time, a car crash and so many people’s lives are changed beyond recognition. There are so many discussion points that this book raises, drink driving, teenage relationships, betrayal, loyalty, grief, fear and organ donation. In other books I have critisized too many themes and the confusion this can cause, but Caroline Bond has weaved such a tale that I didn’t feel like it was too much here. The emotions are raw, the characters Are wholly believable and likeable and frustrating at times, as is real life. There are lessons for each and everyone of us in this book, as well as several hours of gripping reading entertainment, enjoy! One Split Second by Caroline Bond An emotional and heartfelt novel which involves relationships, friendships, love and loyalty. Who was to blame on that dreadful day when five teenagers life’s are changed forever. Can one person be to blame? How does everyone around them cope and deal with what has happened? Will they ever go on to living their life’s fully again? Lots of unknown questions with this book as the blurb doesn’t really give you much! A group of close friends go to a party which results in a night they will never forget. When one drink leads to another when do you say no. On the was home from a great night the friends are drunk and happy their car crashes into a wall. A devastating end to such a great night. A dreaded phone call made to the parents who are waiting anxiously to find out more information about their child. Waiting waiting the parents are are praying for good news! This book had me gripped from the very beginning. It feels wrong to love a book with such wretched subject matter, but something about the ability for the words to elicit such a strong (albeit repulsive) emotional response kept me coming back for more and thinking of the characters.
