“Thought provoking and moving”
(Hardback)
by Lisa Mattin
This book tackles a difficult subject in a very moving and realistic way. The writing manages to realistically reflect the tension and emotions that such a tragedy would evoke and through the story of the aftermath of a car crash it explores so many difficult subjects, from marital relationships, adolescent love and friendships, family dynamics, living with disabilities and how this affects your relationships with the people closest to you and your own identity and also the subject of life support and organ donation. It would be an excellent choice for a book club as it raises so many points for reflection and discussion. One last recommendation – I would strongly suggest that you have a big box of tissues handy when reading.
“Thought Provoking Read”
(Hardback)
by ESTHER PEACOCK
Pete, being the first on the scene, calls the Emergency Services. A blue Seat Leon has mounted the curb and smashed into a factory wall. The lives of the passenger's Harry, Jake, Tish, Jess, and their parents and siblings change forever on this fateful night. The aftermath of the accident shows the real characters of family and friends; underlying tensions simmer, genuine personalities show themselves, human instincts of nurture and protection come to the fore. A tragic set of circumstances, sensitively written; you empathise with all the characters. There are no winners in this story, only survivors. A thought-provoking emotional read. I thank NetGalley, Atlantic Books and the Author Caroline Bond for allowing me to review this pre-publication novel.
“Tragedy”
(Hardback)
by Jennifer Moville
After a tragic accident involving a group of friends parts of this book will leave you in tears. The chapters are short enabling you to pick it up, read a while and then put it down as you please. Possibly the author has done it this way in order to allow the reader to pause, regain their composure and think about the book and what might the situation be like if this had happened to them. From prison cells to intensive care this book takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions. From dealing with marital problems to a car crash it almost seems like you are intruding on people's lives but yet you cannot stop until you get to the final page of the book. This book challenges the reader , not something I would normally choose but a friend gave me a copy to read and I was hooked
“Totally unputdownable”
(Hardback)
by tess lock
This novel is one which every new car owner should read, it should be made compulsory, and as a retired college librarian I would have bought ten copies and recommended that it be read by all. Nonetheless it is also an extremely good plot and very well written by an author with very real understanding of teenagers and their psyche....I do hope that she will write more about this age range as in my experience a well written novel is more effective than any Personal and Social Education class. Back to the novel itself! As I said, it is well written with a good storyline and is totally unputdownable, it made me cry often and I did not stop reading except for the essentials. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC and Caroline for writing with such understanding and skill.
“Slightly disappointing”
(Hardback)
by Caroline Tiller
I was really looking forward to reading this book, and although I did enjoy it, it didn't quite live up to my expectations and so I was left slightly disappointed. The book follows the aftermath of a car crash involving 4 teen-agers, and the impacts on them and their families, especially the driver Harry. The book starts with an almost hour by hour tale, then it seems to jump into week and even longer gaps which I found disappointing as I wanted to know more about what was happening. I also found that some of the characters did not seem to be fully developed, and others stories stopped very early in the book which was a shame. Overall I enjoyed the story, but felt more detail and better character development in some cases would have made this a better read.
