Reviews: Only You (52)
“Just beautiful”
(Paperback)
by Danielle Tongue
I received a copy of this book from readers first in exchange for an honest review. This is not a paid review, nor has it been influenced in any way, shape or form and all of the below opinions are my own. Firsts thing first with this book is how quickly it draws you in and how soon the story kicks off. The author didn’t create unnessary chapters filled with unneeded story. The fact that this story is also set within the city of Rome instantly peaked my interest as a large majority of fiction novels are either set in the UK or the US.  The author wrote this novel brilliantly. It is extremely well adapted and the character arcs, especially Letty's really made me love the story even more. I love the way it changed perspective between characters as I feel it really helped to understand how both of the main characters were feeling and in doing this I found I became much more connected to them both. The issues they both faced within their lives and their problems with their family also helped identify that these characters are far from perfect as the location makes it seem. I’m not one to read romance novels as I find them cliche and don’t draw me in enough to spend my time reading them although this has really opened my eyes to possibly reading more in the future. From the beginning there are clearly issues with the characters past lives that are hinted at but aren’t explored until further in although I personally thought that was a really good way for the author to keep us as readers interested.  The descriptions of the places they visited made you fall in love with it as if you yourself were there and that really helped create the backgrounded needed for this story. The book touches on a lot of real life issues that add a sense of depth and seriousness to the characters lives and history. I did get slightly lost around half way through the novel as the time frames begin to change and keeping up with where each characters are at can get confusing although the author doesn’t linger too much in these parts and it swiftly progressed on. The story changes that the book took really dragged me in, whilst I was reading I did wonder which direction the story would take and wasn’t exactly sure how the writer could possibly carry it on for another 200 pages although she executed it very well and subtly added in twists and turns without creating a drama filled novel which would not fit the theme. Despite all of the above points mentioned I am giving this book a 4/5* rating and that is purely due to the quiet patch that the story hit around the half way mark. I feel this dull part of the story really prevented it from being a 5* review although aside from that I do really recommend this book especially during this lockdown as it helps add a bit of happiness and joy to your life.
“I want to go to Italy!”
(Paperback)
by Jade Hall
I haven't read a romance book for a while as I've been hooked on other genres, however I thought that it would be a nice change. WOW... I think this book is now one of my favourite romances I've read. When Alf and Letty meet in a languages lesson in Rome after both escaping their lives at home, neither of them realise how connected they are until it could be too late! At first I wasn't too sure about this book as it took a while to get into, but once the two main characters got together (Alf and Letty) and started their relationship, I was hooked. I ended up feeling emotionally attached to this relationship and was rooting for it to work out well. Overall, it think that it was written by the author beautifully. I wish I could see these characters living their life and know what happens in their future!
“A mistake..if only”

This was a book I wasn't quite sure if I would like. It is written in such a way that you really want to just see just what will happen next so I read it fairly quickly. I did find that the amount of Italian in the book was a little daunting but as I don't speak Italian that's understandable and to be fair the author did translate for the reader a lot of the time. The story was split into 3 parts which came as a surprise. I also found that the story line had lots of twists and turns which were very cleverly done as they came unexpectedly. The character Alf being a tour guide brought in a lot of extremely interesting travel info on Italy which I loved and Letty who so loved dance and ballet added more information on that subject which I found informative. All in all a very decent read.

With thanks to Netgalley, Pigeonhole, the publishers and the author for the arc. An enjoyable read by Kate Eberlen, Only You is a story of two people who meet, fall in love and then live happily ever after? Letty and Alf meet in Italy and spend time together while taking Italian lessons. The scenery was wonderful and the story easy to read.
“Lovely Read”
(Paperback)
by Sara Scott
Only You was such a lovely read. I particularly enjoy reading books where we have multiple narrators taking turns to tell the story so this was perfect for me. It is the first book by Kate Eberlen that I have read and it’s a really great one to start with. I found it easy to get into and barely noticed the pages whizzing past. I felt quite sad when I reached the end as I had grown so fond of the characters. Having had a lovely visit to Rome in the past, this book brought back a lot of happy memories for me. It is a great place to set a novel. The story is slightly predictable in places but that doesn’t really matter for me. I enjoyed the chance to escape the doom and gloom of current times and get to know Letty and Alf.
