Reviews: Oracle Code (1)
“A brilliant rework of Oracle's origin story”
(Paperback)
The Oracle Code by Marieke Nijkamp follows Barbara Gordon’s physical rehab after a gunshot paralyses her. But things are amiss, and other patients start to go missing...
The Oracle Code is a really nuanced look at becoming disabled, working through that and finding community with other disabled people. It's also a wonderfully creepy mystery, with a very satisfying ending, challenging who gets to be the heroes.
This is the first piece of Batman related storytelling I've really enjoyed, probably because Nijkamp brings a nuanced look at Barbara Gordon's origin story and the world in which she inhabits.
I love Marieke Nijkamp's YA novels, and I'm extremely looking forward to their latest Even If We Break which is out in September and their new run of Goosebumps graphic novels that they are authoring!! If you haven't read their work yet, definitely go check them out and support an autistic non-binary author!
