An unusual theme which draws the reader further and further into the mysteries and intrigues in the unusual plotline. Just when you think you`ve solved the plot there is another twist. Kept me guessing and intrigued until the last page. Don`t start to read this unless you have time to finish it - unputdownable! A great entertaining book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, its subject has obviously been well researched. The plot unfolds gradually and the reader's attention is really grabbed by the story. What I particularly liked was the fact that you couldn't second guess the sinister and almost unbelievable outcome. However, to anyone familiar with Nazi policies and way of thinking, it seems horrifyingly credible. The book would appeal to readers who enjoy whodunits, mystery and crime novels. I would certainly recommend it particularly as a holiday read.

As always Sam Bourne delivers an excellent thriller which completely satisfies. Highly recommended.

For any fans of Dan Brown and Chris Kuzneski this is a must read book. Piers Morgan said of Sam Bourne 'The biggest challenger to Dan Brown's crown! Although a fan of Sam Bourne I was not sure if I would like this new title. Set during the First World War it finds our hero James Zennor seemingly a broken man with nowhere to go except down. What a wonderful surprise! The characters are well developed and believable. The story is fast paced and you are not going to want to put it down. It had me reading at a pace as fast as the storyline, with its twists and turns as it draws you in. It is the type of book that leaves you thinking about the story while you are doing everyday tasks (like work!) It is a love story wrapped up in a thriller, with a sprinkling of history and touches areas of war and the effects on the men that took part willingly or not. James Zennor is parted from Florence and Harry in what seems like a conspiracy against James by the people with whom he believes to be friends. "What wouldn’t you do to save your family?" It seems the answer is anything. The chase is on, we follow Zennor across the pond to find his family and save his Country, delving into the ways of American universities and secret clubs. Meanwhile there is a sub plot happening in Oxford. Before you realise what has happened you find yourself cheering for Zennor to unmask the baddie and be re-united with his Wife and son. After reading the Authors notes (something I don’t normally do) I found that there was a lot of factual text cleverly incorporated into the storyline. This is a tough but sunny, warm, good feeling book and I would highly recommend everyone read this book if they are fans of the thriller genre and in touch with their “pink” side.

This was a new author for me - never read any of Sam Bourne's novels before and I don't read that many books in this genre but....I actually enjoyed this. I like the style of writing based on historical events with some made up characters. The story flowed well but I must admit to not liking James very much. He was not a very nice person to know. Overall a very good read.
