Reviews: Parenting Hell (8)
“Great for new parents and fans of the podcast!”
(Hardback)
by Joanna at St. Neots
The first thing I would like to highlight here is that I am not yet a parent (and therefore not qualified at all to write a review on a parenting book), but I was dying to read it because I have been a fan of the podcast for so long. For those of you like me, the book is a little more geared towards parents than the podcast sometimes feels, but that doesn't mean you can't thoroughly enjoy it (plus, I now feel super prepared for the hell of parenting when the time does come!!). I've always loved Josh and Rob as comedians before Parenting Hell, and their individual voices are not lost in this book. I love the conversational layout and it really keeps the tone in keeping with the podcast. Not to mention, we also get to hear from superstars Rose and Lou (and Michael, of course), which I was very excited for. Parenting Hell is a collection of anecdotes from 'the before', the pregnancies and everything after that. As great as this book is for a good laugh (and believe me there are many stories in here that will have you howling), there are also lots of more tender conversations taking place that aren't usually talked about with new or soon-to-be parents such as miscarriage and emergency c-sections, but are important discussions to have. Rob and Josh always say on their podcast that nothing they say should be taken as 'official guidance' and that they generally have no idea what they are doing, but I think the parenting guide they have created here is going to help a lot of people, even if its just to assure new parents that their weird sleeping patterns and strange new lifestyle is something that happens to everyone. I will definitely be keeping it on the shelves for when my time comes around. Overall, I am very excited to be selling this to/pitching it as a gift idea for new and old parents, especially with Christmas coming up around the corner. If you are a soon-to-be parent, definitely read this guide before the baby comes (from what I understand you won't have much time after). I'm also planning on buying the audio version too so I can hear the Rose interview in all it's glory! Buy this book!!! Thank you to the publisher for sending me a reading copy!
“A joy to read”

As a long time listener of the Parenting Hell podcast, this was a hilarious read. Though you don’t need to have listened to the podcast to enjoy this book, as a non-parent this book was hysterical and uplifting. It really is a great read for everyone, funny with some sound advice and laugh out loud anecdotes.
“Hell indeed”
(Paperback)
by Book collector
I'm one of those irritating people who looks after nephews, nieces and friends kids, fill them with sugar, send them hypo with ridiculous games and return them feral to their parents then go off to watch a movie safe in the knowledge I don't have to calm the little ones down, or deal with the suger crash and/or tantrums! Evil, I know. But after reading this very honest and funny book from two of Britain's best comedians, I don't feel even the slightest, smidgen of guilt. Not for me the sleepless nights, the endless cleaning of various substances produced by small bundles of screaming joy, the tantrums of toddlers (the adults in my life are bad enough with the tantrums) no, I'll stick to the fun bit of hyping up other people's kids! I enjoyed this book, there is an honesty about it that is refreshing in a world of perfect parents and babies (well, according to social media at any rate... and we all know how accurate that is!) The book is well written and will both reassure new to be parents and terrify them in equal measures. This is a very enjoyable book that entertains and offers the reassurance that everyone is winging it so don't worry to much.

Great read, big fan of the podcast and translates really well to the book. Honest, open and lighthearted read. Not a parent myself but still an insightful read and full of relatable stories about being a child, growing up and parents so something for everyone. Love the addition of the interviews. Look forward to the next!
