Reviews: Payment Deferred (2)
“Fascinating”
(Paperback)
Fascinating story. It's not exactly a crime novel more a psychological thriller really. The story is good, a tale of a momentary decision and the consequences thereafter. Loved the ending. As usual with forester the writing is good. Published in 1926 it feels very modern in style. Unlike most of the crime novels of its day it's a little more graphic in its depictions of sexual relations (not over graphic obviously but more up front than many golden age writers at the time.) Its a very good book from an author who is always reliable and a chilling depiction of guilt.
“MORE RELEVANT THAN EVER”
(Paperback)
Written in the 1920s about a man driven to murder by his own crippling debt, it's so masterfully done you can be forgiven for sympathising with him, especially in today's age of 'the working poor'. A compulsive, humbling read.
