Reviews: Peden (1)
“Peden The Prophet”
(Paperback)
I read this book way back in 1984 when this was first published by Robert Watson which I borrowed through
a local church member with a similar interest in the
history of the Covenanters.
If you have an interest in the history of the Covenanters
then this is your read.
'Sandy' Peden The Prophet which has included some very dark & disturbing reading on how they were 'hunted like the deer' as the poem reads, torture & punished along with local history from places like Edinburgh, Shotts, South West Scotland,
Headless Cross near Forth named after a Covenater
who was beheaded on way from a open air meeting,
the Bass Rock prison,to name but a few where open air prayers took place.
This has got to be one of 'the' best history books with an insight on the Scottish Covenanters, a must for any bookshelf.
10 out of 10.
