Reviews: Playing Away (4)
“Just as good 2nd time round”
(Paperback)
I love Adele Parks as a writer. I think her books are always really well written and so easy to read. I love the way her style and type of book has evolved over the years too.
I had originally read Playing Away when it was first released and I was in my very early twenties and I loved it so was pleased to see it was being re-released for its 20yr anniversary.
I read the book in two days and enjoyed it all over again! It’s a story of Connie who seems to have everything - perfect life, great husband and lots of friends but when she meets a new handsome man she can’t, or won’t, resist him. This leads to an affair starting and the book takes us through how this impacts on Connie’s life and relationships with her husband and friends. It shows the reader that things aren’t always perfect despite them looking so on the outside - everyone’s lives have their own trials, even if they are self made.
Thinking of looking out some past copies of Adele’s other books to re-read while in lockdown as it really took me away from it all while reading.
“so oh my god good”
(Paperback)
If you young readers who have not read this, you do not know what your missing out on. Adele Parks never fails the oh my god!. I recommend all her books. I have read them all and love each one.
“A Great Read”
(Paperback)
I have read three of Adele Parks' other books and really enjoyed them, so I was keen to read this one.
Connie has been happily married to Luke for almost a year. But then Connie meets stunning John Harding at a work conference and everything changes for them.
In a novel that deals with issues of fidelity and is brimming with emotional drama Adele Parks' characters are personable and real, making this book all the harder to put down. Funny and so well written, I liked the supporting cast of Connie's friends and found the way they all dealt with her betrayal differently absolutely enthralling. In Playing Away, Adele Parks demonstrates that she knows how to write enticing, gripping and original novels that are must-reads. Very highly recommended.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Headline via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
“Enjoyable read”
(Paperback)
Playing Away by Adele Parks
I rate this book 3.5 stars
Imagine the sexiest man you can think of. He's disrespectful, confident and completely unscrupulous. He's about to destroy Connie's peace of mind and her plan for living happily every after with her husband Luke.
This is my 2nd time of reading this. The book explores cheating, relationships and friendships. An easy, enjoyable, chick lit, sexy read. Definitely one for the ladies!
