I really loved this book. When Laura becomes a lodger on a very expensive street she just wants to get over her divorce, however, she soon gets entangled with the lives of the very rich ladies that live there with an unexpected storyline. It is funny, genuine, intriguing and a thoroughly enjoyable read!
“A brilliant, addictive, laugh out loud read from the Queen Bee of revenge novels! 5 stars all the way!”

Jane Fallon does it again! I literally could not put this book down, with page after page of twists and hilarious one-liners, the juicy storyline will keep you gripped until the final pages. Laura has recently separated from her husband and now must find somewhere to live as their marital home has been sold. As she arrives on The Close, where she is to rent a studio flat for 6 months, she can’t quite believe what she is seeing. The whole close is lined with huge, beautiful mansions and the women in the street all look like they’ve just been airbrushed in real life! Big bums, boobs and inflatable lips, bounce around all over the place. The studio flat is attached to a mansion that is owned by Gail and Ben, being the most down to earth people in the close, they make Laura feel very welcome and throw her a mini party. It is after this party that Laura suddenly finds herself accused of trying to get her claws into Al, the husband of Stella, who is the Queen Bee of the close. Suddenly Laura is shunned by others and is made to feel very unwelcome. Determined to clear her name, Laura gets wind of what Al is really up to. After she decides it is only fair Stella knows her husbands secret, the two form an unlikely friendship! This is where the drama unfolds. I struggle to think of many who wouldn’t enjoy this book. It is a light-hearted, easy read. Jane has the knack of feeding her readers with enough exciting info and plenty of plot twists to keep you turning the pages. A cross between Desperate Housewives and The Real Housewives TV shows, this book will satisfy any lovers of scandal and gossip!
“A great summer read”
(Paperback)

Jane Fallon’s books always have me hooked from the first few pages, and this one was the same. I love her writing style and storylines. Laura’s marriage has broken up and her house purchase has fallen through, so she needs somewhere to rent, and quickly. She finds a small flat above the garage of a beautiful house, which is in a small road of similar properties. In a neighbourhood like this, there’s always a Queen Bee and here it’s Stella. Laura gets unwittingly dragged into a lie told to Stella by her fiancée and this makes her suspicious of Laura’s motives. Stella also detests Laura, of course. Then some of the other neighbours start to take Stella’s side, so Laura is determined to set the record straight and reveal Al for what he really is. So the two women join forces! A brilliant read that was hard to put down. Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin UK Michael Joseph for an advance reader copy in return for an honest review.
“Twists, turns and secrets”
(Paperback)

I read this book courtesy of NetGalley. I have enjoyed books by Jane Fallon in the past and this is no exception although I did wonder initially as I just couldn't relate to some of the characters. As the book progressed I became hooked, firstly with Laura, although she annoyed me at times then Stella and all along Gail. There are some hilarious bits mostly driven by how ridiculous many of the very rich view themselves and the lengths they go to to try and outdo everyone else. As the book points out, money does not buy taste but so fun to take a peak! As with Jane's previous books, revenge is at the forefront but with plenty of twists, turns and secrets right up to the very end. A light and a thoroughly entertaining read ideal to relax with and enjoy.
