Reviews: Rabbit Hole (33)
“The perfect balance of humour and sincerity”
(Hardback)
by Leah Chapman
Rabbit Hole exceeded my expectations, especially with the way Alice's mental health issues are written. Alice is in a psychiatric ward, but she is also our narrator, so there is always speculation about whether what she's saying is true and it leads you to read between the lines a and pick up on other peoples behaviour that Alice has noticed. This leads us to a very unwell Alice trying to solve a murder on the ward, trying and failing to keep things aligned in her head, and make sense of the behaviour exhibited by other unwell patients! Very funny, cleverly written, and as always with Billingham I didn't guess who did it
“Great novel”

DC Alice Armitage is on the hunt for a killer but there is a problem the killer is a resident on a psychiatric ward. Some off you may think why is that a problem as the people on the ward can't leave. Well the issue is that Alice is also locked away on the Fleet Ward but not as a serving police officer but as a patient! This book gives a terrifying insite into a psychiatric hospital where the patients suffer from all kinds of mental illness, each with their own stories to tell. Can Alice find out who murdered her fellow resident and can she stop it from happening again. Everyone talks about twists in books but Mark has excelled in this one it will keep your head spinning.

“One of thrillers of 2021”

A stand alone thriller by Mark Billingham. Alice is an ex police woman who witnessed a traumatic event in which her partner was killed. Following this she had a relapse in her mental health and ends up sectioned on a psychiatric ward. This story tells the tale of Alice attempting to solve the crime of murder that occurs on the ward when one of the patients is murdered. The characters are so rich in this book and you can visualise them all. It is literally a book that you can't put down and I had to stay up till the early hours of the morning to finish it. Well plotted with so many twists and turns. Recommended to thriller fans and definitely one of the best thriller I have read this year.

I absolutely love every book that Mark has written, his books pull you in from the very start and keep you gripped to the very end. Rabbit Hole is no exception. I just couldn't put it down, I didn't want to put it down. this is a book where when you just want to make a cuppa get cosy and read your book in one sitting...this is that book! Rabbit Hole is set in a psychiatric ward, there has been a death on the ward and ex-police Alice wants to investigate...did I mention Alice is also a patient on the ward!!! An extremely clever and well thought out novel. I can't wait for his next book! A HUGE 5*!
