Reborn is definitely a must-try for action and adventure fans. The premise is a take on the 'after dying you wake up in a fantasy world' rebirth genre so popular in manga at the moment. In this case though the influences are western fairytales and Tolkein rather than video games. Some plot points felt a little too easy and artificial to me at times, but Millar is too good a writer for it to be laziness and I'm hoping these are gaps to be explored in later volumes. The artwork is a highlight, showing that the dramatic and detailed style that Capullo made work so well with Batman is perfectly suited for fantasy settings and characters. I enjoyed seeing him freed from Gotham's claustrophobic walls and given more space, light and colour to stretch his imagination.
