A gripping thriller and a real page turner with lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing. Definitely worth a read.

Remember My Name is a convoluted thriller about infidelity, bribery, blackmail and corporate secrets that could lead to the destruction of both a marriage and a business empire. It has plenty of twists and turns that kept me interested and a varied cast of characters, although I have to say I didn’t find any of them particularly likeable, perhaps because I didn’t feel there was very much depth to the way they are written – the daughter especially could really have been fleshed out a lot more. The plot moves along at a decent pace for the most part, although for me it did drag a bit in the middle and suffer from some repetitive explanation regarding the issues faced by the husband’s company. After some predictable moments and some surprises it came to a satisfying if slightly rushed conclusion with all the loose ends tied up and a final blink-and-you-miss-it twist.

One word to describe this book: disappointing. Remember My Name starts with Cressida overhearing her businessman husband Laurence with another woman. Angry, she hires Brioni (a computer expert) to gather data on him that will ensure that she can divorce him and get a decent amount of money in the settlement. But Brioni discovers much more than Laurence's infidelity, and bribery, murder, and dodgy dealings follow. This book started so well, and for the first 150 pages was a real page turner. However, as it progressed, it felt like it became more convoluted and unbelievable. And by the end I had lost all interest in the plot and the characters. I felt that the characters were somewhat one dimensional and sometimes lacked credibility. What I enjoyed about his book was the short chapters; they added to the pace and made it easy to read. I also enjoyed the idea of it; the angry wife, seeking to find out what her husband has been up to. It would have been better if it had stayed with this plot. Instead, it seemed to run away with itself. I gave it 3 stars because it was a page turner initially and because I enjoyed the detail about hacking.

It was a thriller- nothing exceptionally amazing but not anything for me to want to stop reading the book. Since it was not too long and at a pace where the plot unravelled at an okay speed I was able to read the book without too much difficulty however I was not overwhelmed with anything in particular and wanted something more. The plot too was nothing out of the ordinary which did not make it bad but rather less interesting therefore I would not tell people to avoid this book but rather may offer a suggest other books for them to read. If she'd turned off her phone, instead of listening in, perhaps no one would have died... When Cressida Howard catches her entrepreneur husband playing away from home, she hires security expert Brioni O'Brien to get the evidence she needs for a speedy and financially rewarding divorce. taken from the blurb although the plot does seem fun I just struggled to really get into it.

In terms of the mystery, it's delightfully modern and I devoured the opening, however the middle did start to get a little slow. I do think some of the plot was a touch predictable, with perhaps one too many reveals to keep it grounded in reality. I liked that plot itself is grounded in commercial espionage (albeit with a side of murder) and the interactions build gradually throughout the book to culminate in a shocking standoff. Whilst I enjoyed the initial insight into the company, however the ‘bad guys’ are slightly cliched - a fat Silicon Valley tech lead and a the Dublin 'mafia'. I was still an enjoyable read though, and having previously not read any Sam Blake, I am intrigued by the idea that there's a Brioni prequel and may give that a go!
