This book is a perfect tribute and insight of a average soldiers real life, with the fantastically illustrated pages it really brings their war stories to life. It captures the hearts and experiences of so many of our great British men who fought in the First World War. A extremely moving book that leaves you feeling privileged to have had such a insight. A must read!!

Focussing on the soldier rather than any specific battles or events, this absorbing and highly illustrated book really does give you a feel for what it was like to be the average Tommy. With original letters, postcards and photographs as well as modern colour photos of original artefacts and how the trenches would have looked, the book takes you from recruitment to training, through the whole range of a Tommy's experiences in the war and finally to his return home. I loved the attention to detail, the little things like how they were expected to make their will out before heading to the front, the awful food they ate, and how they tried to get a night's sleep. All these little details all add up to create a highly informative and powerfully moving book.

Remembering Tommy is a beautiful and informative book and is an excellent tribute to the real lives of the British soldiers who fought in the First World War. Through a staggering number of photographs and illustrations as well as first person accounts, Peter Doyle and Chris Foster chart the experiences of average soldiers from the moment they enlisted through their service in the trenches right up until their homecoming. Remembering Tommy is a book to take time over and then treasure.
