Riptides is marketed as a book for younger teens and middle-grade readers but much older readers, like me, will still find it enjoyable. It made me think of my youth and reading adventure books and series where I read one book after another. This book has it all, as you imagine how Cam feels as he desperately tries to get money for his family by farming rock weed and you hope that if he finds the treasure - if indeed it exists - he won't need to struggle any more. Weave into this a teenage boy with an absent father, coping with a different culture, new friendships and hostility from another boy. There is lots going on and never a dull moment. I recommend that you read this book or buy it for your own teenager - it is such an easy and compelling read you will be pleased if you do.
