“Manjeet Mann roars again!”
(Paperback)
Another incredible read from Manjeet Mann. The Crossing is one of the best books I've ever read and it's clear that the same amount of research and thought went into this one. Following the story of rich girl, Rizu, who is accused of being a witch, it explores finding yourself, taking revenge, facing consequences and finding peace.
I was shocked to realise that witch hunts still exist in India and Manjeet Mann sheds light on something which feels largely undocumented. However, the story feels completely relatable, highlighting the power of social media and how things, however they are founded, can 'go viral'. The consequences of what happens as a result of Rizu being branded a witch is horrific, hard-hitting and long-lasting. Yet Mann considers and explores the reasons behind the terrible actions from all sides.
The verse sounds incredible when read out by Manjeet herself (I was lucky enough to hear a reading) and I highly recommend this book to all young people and adults.
“Truly empowering!”
(Paperback)
I absolutely adore Manjeet's verse writing style. It really enhances the power of the story, crescendoing at meaningful parts of the book and injecting feelings throughout. A truly empowering novel about resistance, activism, and how the consequences of your actions can impact your life forever. What a fantastic book that I will recommend to many!
