Reviews: Run (12)
“Run”
(Paperback)
Reading a book by an author you've not come across before is always exciting, but can be a disappointment! Not in this case. A fast paced exhilarating story with excellent timing. Totally believable plot and characters. The main one in particular you can empathise with, he's just an ordinary guy doing his job and getting through life as well as he can after a tragedy! It does make you think how easily and quickly your life could change! The story grips you right from the start and doesn't let go 'til the end. A big part of the fascination is that you could actually imagine this happening. Terrorism, secret Government agencies, assassins, covers ups!I for one can't wait to read the rest of his books!
“Run”
(Paperback)
Run, by Jeff Abbott is a compelling novel, full of twists and turns. The novel unfolds when Ben Forsberg is framed for a murder which he didn't commit, of a dangerous assassin. His life is then thrown into a world he had never experienced. Terrorist groups; Homeland Security and the CIA to name but a few.The author draws you into the plot with his excellent quality of writing, and seemingly excellent knowledge of government agencies. This novel is a thoroughly enjoyable read and very hard to put down. It was very violent in places, which was completely necessary for the story, and completely thought provoking. It got you asking yourself, could what happened to Ben really happen to someone else? Is it actually happening to someone right now as you read the novel?A totally plausible and thrilling book, from an author I've not heard of or read before. It certainly makes me want to read everything else he has written, if the quality of writing is as good as this.

(Paperback)
Ordinary guy Ben Forberg's life is suddenly torn apart. His new wife Emily is the inexplicable victim of a random shooting; or is it a calculated assassination? This is the world of psychopathic ex IRA killers, covert operations, Homeland Security, the CIA, and terrorism. In particular, it's about multimillion dollar private security companies that profit from propping up operations such as in Iraq and Afghanistan. The plot of Jeff Abbott's thriller moves at breakneck speed, switching from the present day, back a decade to CIA operations in Indochina and hops effortless from scene to scene. There is a good deal of actual running in Run; together with car chases, lots of shootouts, flashing knifes and objects crunching bone and flesh. Run touches on several important contemporary themes. How for example the US government spends hundreds of millions of dollars through contracts, building a parallel corporate army. Whilst Run's main characters are as expected, one dimensional, this is more than compensated by a story line that does offer some unexpected twists and turns. The sheer momentum of the book leaves you exhausted but unwilling to put it down. For a true non-fiction insight into private US security companies, read 'Blackwater', but for an escapist compelling read you could do no better than Jeff Abbott's Run.

Run by Jeff AbbottThis is a Fiction book When two goverment agents turn up on Ben Forsberg doorstep because his business card has been found in a shot assassins wallet. Is he connected to the assassin or is he next on the list? Who can he trust who can he turn to? he has no idea so he Runs for his life. If you like your action fast paced and non stop then this book will suit you. The two main characters are very believable and you are soon on their side willing them to suceed. Nowhere in the book are you disappointed by thinking "oh that couldn't happen", in fact just the opposite you will be thinking "yes this could be happening right now". I haven't read any of this Authors book before so I was a bit wary of the subject matter thinking it could be boring, how wrong I was. From the first couple of pages to the last I was gripped. It's fast, it's action packed it will have you on the edge of your seat wanting to know what happens. Will definitely be reading more of the 9 other books he has written. I would give this a rating of 9/10

This was an exciting book drawing in many different characters, sometimes you wondered what the link was going to be between them all. There is a lot of action, some quite graphic, which meant that the pace of the book was strong throughout. It was difficult to put down and is definitely not suited to being a bed-time read. Explaining to work colleagues that the black circles under your eyes is down to a book you are reading brings some very strange looks.Ben Fosberg. the main character, immediately becomes one you have sympathy with and this remains so throughout the book. Whilst with other characters you go from finding them difficult to like to rooting for them when you think you understand what is happening. This is the key to why the book is so gripping, when you think you know what is going on another scenario is implied. The subject matter is bang up to date, terrorism, secret groups within the CIA, corruption and businesses making money from devastation. A highly enjoyable, if exhausting, book to read, which should easily translate to the big screen......
