Reviews: Secret Rome (1)
“Secret City!”
(Paperback)
The Jonglez "Secret" Guides would inspire me to take an apartment in the city for a couple of weeks and everyday I would choose one of the more hidden sights included in the book. I have now been to Rome a couple of times and I would love to do this and discover things above and beyond the traditional must see things, like the Colosseum, Trajan's Column etc. So, this is a great starting point. A tour of Angelica Library which is Rome's oldest public library... why are there sofas on Via Giulia? Whilst in Via Giulia pop into the Hypogeum Cemetery of Santa Maria Dell'Orazione...And how amazing is this: a trip to the Chiesa Nuova on a Saturday evening - a Rubens painting is wound down by remote control to reveal an icon of the Virgin Mary. For something more modern, try the Palazzetto Bianco, a very unusual building constructed early 21st Century.
So there is more than enough to keep any visitor happily occupied for many, many days and it's just a bit unusual. Enjoy!
