“Revealed more on the nature nurture debate”
(Hardback)
A science based look echoes throughout - I like the reference to how mice genetically identical cannot be predetermined as to how they respond to adverse trauma. Their behaviour cannot be predicted just like human behaviour. Throughout the author is willing any subject to find their key & lock combination. Had a lot of practical case studies which I prefer as well as practical assessments the reader can carry out for themselves and circumstances if they so wish. There’s a lot of labelling going on these days - psychopathy, sociopathy etc which can be a negative outlook to have. Instead what is offered is a compassionate look at identifying the knacks people actually hold for given situations. A lot of human energy can be used on trying to explain why people
do what they do - for me this further supports there doesn’t need to be a why. We just have to accept people ordinary do what they want, because they can or want to ultimately. Whatever if any type you identify with, the book explains avenues of exploration that can better secure you around those you choose to be within your inner circle. Very insightful and thought provoking. Liked also the reference and explanation why people like their own space… the herd of animals being electrocuted and the anti social worm feeding away from others so perhaps there will never be a total wipe out when it comes to people thinking and acting independently.
“Superb reading”

This was the first Amir Levine book that I have read and was blown away at how insightful he was and how easy it was for a non academic to understand attachments, relationships and how to build and maintain better ones.

“Life enhancing essential reading”
(Hardback)
This is a holy grail book - it starts by sharing the benefits of being ‘secure’ and then, wonderfully, it shares that there is a way to achieve secure attachment in adulthood (and how to achieve this!). Written by a psychologist who has a special interest in this topic (hence his previous book ‘Attached’), it is essential reading for anyone wanting to work on themself.
Part 1 is all about attachment, connections, science, and evidence, but backed up with interesting anecdotes - this is a deep dive, so much information, all explained very clearly.
Part 2 discusses the insecure attachment styles and how to help these become secure. For those who are unsure, there is a quiz to find their attachment style, then the attachment strategies are discussed. As an avoidant type I found CARRP so helpful, beautifully straightforward and yes - possible to implement!
I love how supportive and non-judgement this book is - it made me feel understood!

This was such a fantastic book. I thought it was really well written. It breaks down attachment styles and explains how to change yours in an easy to understand way. It's definitely a book you reread every once in a while.
