Reviews: Shadow Thieves (16)
“Absolutely thrilling”
(Paperback)
by Hannah M
Couldn’t believe this was a debut! Absolutely incredible. It’s an action packed read, full to the brim of adventure. Loved the plot, the main character and especially loved the author’s writing style. It’s perfectly paced, the characters are all well developed and it’s really exciting! Could easily see it being made into a movie. We were hooked from the very first few pages, loved the twists and turns and had no idea what was going to happen next. Couldn’t recommend this one enough! *gifted a copy but views my own :)
“Amazing and a must read!”
(Paperback)

I read this book as an adult and I absolutely loved it! Fantastic storyline, such a page turner and gave Harry Potter vibes. I cannot wait until book 2 comes out in 2026!
“Exciting new adventure!”
(Paperback)
by Rebecca Evans
I loved going on this adventure with Tom, meeting all the interesting characters along the way! Peter Burns did an amazing job making the characters feel real and created the perfect atmosphere when setting the scenes. Great twists throughout! This book is aimed at a younger audience. However, it can be enjoyed by all ages. When I was reading it, I did feel it had a modern day, Oliver Twist meets Harry Potter vibe about it. So well written. I was totally disappointed when it ended and can't wait for the next instalment! Thank you, @NetGalley, for the advanced copy.
“A thrilling story about a school for thieves, set in a gritty alternate London”
(Paperback)
by Customer
In "Shadow Thieves", author Peter Burns takes this concept and runs with it. The result is an fast-paced, action-packed middle-grade adventure set in an immersive and original world filled with dangerous secrets, tested loyalties and daring heists - with an ending that leaves you wanting more. No wonder this book was nominated for the Carnegie Medal 2026! Orphan Tom lives on the streets shining shoes, picking pockets and trying to stay out of the brutal workhouse. But then his friends are caught, and Tom is offered the opportunity of a lifetime: to train at a boarding school for thieves! But the exciting new world of the Shadow League may be just as dangerous as the one he left behind. Can he survive long enough to use his new skills to rescue his friends? One of my favourite reads this year, and I can't wait for the sequel!

Thank you to the publishers for this early review copy. This is book 1 in a new adventure series for children age 9 to 12 years. I am hooked in and ready to see what book 2 brings us. A special school for thieves, friendship, laughs, danger and adventure what more do we all need. Great characters and excellent pacing ensuring that I flew through it. Very happy to recommend and start the queue for book 2.
