Reviews: Shadowscent: The Darkest Bloom (7)
“Brilliant!”
(Paperback)
A wonderfully depicted new fantasy world with characters I was really rooting for. Ash and Rakel's adventures kept me gripped as they searched for the cure to their poisoned Prince. Action packed, such a fast pace, which I loved. Can't wait to read the next one, I've a feeling there's loads more to come from these characters!
“5 stars!!!”
(Paperback)
An amazing debut novel.
In a world where smell is quite literally the most important sense of all, the witty and wonderful Rakel (who is supremely gifted in the nose department) is trying to use her powerful talent with fragrance to make a living for herself and her very unwell father. Unfortunately in attempting to prove herself in the capital of the desert land she hails from (Aramtesh) she meets Ash, a brooding palace guard of many dark and mysterious secrets and ends up being accused of poisoning the crown prince.
The unlikely pair end up on a quest across the magical varying lands of their kingdom trying to solve the riddle of the royal poisoning and find a much needed cure to save the prince in time (and their own necks) while avoiding (sometimes) the perils that come their way.
I can't wait till book 2!
“Shadowscent - thrilling YA Fantasy debut”
(Paperback)
In a world where scent is key, Rakel's impressive scentlore skills are no match for the disease that is ravaging her family and members of her village, not to mention the unfortunate souls in the city beyond.
At the palace, the empire is rocked after the Prince is poisoned. Ash, the Prince's Imperial Guard must find him a cure if the Prince is to survive.
Rakel & Ash follow in the footsteps of legends of old to retrieve illusive items to create a cure for those that they love. As they encounter obstacles that threaten their success, they begin to rely on one another more as their friendship evolves and the urgent need to complete their quest drives them on.
I was delighted to review P M Freestone's YA fantasy debut, Shadowscent, it will have you hooked as soon as you open the first page. I defy you not to breathe in the words as if the scents mentioned fill the very air around you. I read this book in one sitting, completely astounded by its powerful message of love and loyalty, and the beautiful ARC cover (by Scholastic designer Liam Drane) is as breathtaking as the writing within its binds.
Pre-order if you can - a fantastic addition to your bookshelf.
