Reviews: Silent Key (2)
“Great work”
(Paperback)
by Wayne Fenlon
If you are looking for a novel jam-packed full of action and tension then this might not be quite the book you are looking for. I'm not saying those elements don't appear or situations are handled delicately. It's just few and far between. For me personalIy, I feel there's a different approach to all of this as a whole. It pulls you in from other angles. There's a genuine curiosity of the human spirit here. This is what I took from it anyway. Yes, it's a detective mystery, but again... it runs deeper. The last twenty percent is ramped up, though. Have patience. Silent Key has an honest heart first, and doesn't shy away from it. Certain scenes are full of anguish and fear. Others just make you stop and think about what you would do in a similar situation. I love when that happens. Characters behave true and cope in their own unique way here. They know their place and have wants and needs, their beliefs differ. They observe and push back. More importantly, each character is crucial to the story. That's what we all want, right? What begins with intrigue soon evolves into a mystery of sorts, hidden in an almost every-day-life kind of way. A difficult feat to pull off, keeping things on a normal level, coasting along with underlying tones of dread. There is a good balance here. That's where I seemed to be paying most of my attention, reading from a slightly different angle all the time. It's not what I'd call a slow burn. It's more like, I don't know, an uncomfortable fire or something. One that's worth taking a step back from, if you know what I mean. Take your time. It's worth it. Watch things unfold. It's five stars from me. Maybe I was just in the right frame of mind. This is solid, dedicated work. No complaints.

This is a gripping character driven horror that provides the reader with a lot of dialogue and intrigue into the mystery element of this supernatural horror novel. Thoroughly enjoyable to read
