Reviews: Skeleton Tree (3)
“Such a sweet lovely read”
(Paperback)
by Fiona Sharp
So dealing with death and sickness can be tricky... This book handles it brilliantly!! Great story with a touch of humour. If you have enjoyed wonder and monster calls - then you will love this book so much! Most certainly highly recommended (Can't comment on the illustrations as my copy was an advance review copy with no illustrations - sad face for that)
“Amazing and beautiful debut novel ”
(Paperback)
by Ann Noddles at Durham
This is a charming and unique little book about love and loss, even with it's sensitive subject matter I found myself smiling throughout the book at and with all of her wonderful quirky characters and I found them so easy to relate to. The illustrations are an added bonus and I cannot recommend it highly enough, it is beautiful!
“How To Be Friends With Death!”
(Paperback)
by Nicole @WstonesHemel
This is a bittersweet story. 12yr old Stanly and his younger sister are looked after by Ms Francine whilst their Mother works hard at the local supermarket. Their Father has moved far away and is not always available at the end of the phone. Stanly wants things to go back to before Dad left as his sister Marin is unwell and Mum is hardly around. He discovers a bit of bone in the garden, did it move? He enlists the help of his OCD best friend {who counts the panels of the fences in his garden to make sure they are still there} to uncover the bones and record them so he can enter a Young Archeologist competition, win the prize and get Dad back. The skeleton uncovers itself over the week and by the end is dancing around in Marin's room. But is there something more sinister about 'Mr Princly'? This is a story about coming to terms {or friends} with death, to understand everyone has different ways of facing grief. Some will ignore it, others will be afraid but accept it is there, some will not be there to help at all and others will see it and try to fight it. Sometimes an end means a new beginning but we do not forget. A very beautifully told powerful tale with tears at the end.
