I haven't bought a book of poetry since high school, but thought I'd take a punt on this after seeing Spoz's recitation of The Castle On The Beacon on youtube - even when it arrived, it gathered dust because I feared I might not like it and I thought I'd want to have time to digest it a poem at a time, really wring the most out of each of them. I didn't need all that time, and the fear was baseless... I picked it up tonight and it grabbed me in a warm, welcoming West Midlands hug and just would not let go until I finished it - funny, sad, angry but above all clever and accessible and true, I really, really enjoyed it. Brilliant stuff, I'd love to see some of it performed live (which I will), and there are even some recommendations to explore, too (which I will!). Molto grazie, nice one Spoz!
