“I really can't overstate how great this book is”

This is a fantastic Scandi noir crime thriller with a series of particularly vicious murders of women in their own homes. Although it was quite dense in terms of words and pages, the pace is quick and I was completely hooked. Absolutely brilliant. I really can't overstate how great this book is.
“Not to be missed!”

If you are looking for a chilling read that will keep you up at night (both reading and feeling a bit frightened and exposed after reading), this is the right book for you. I have not read any of the previous Joona Linna books (how did I miss them?!?) but was drawn to Stalker by the well earned comparisons to Stieg Larsson and Jo Nesbo. I haven't missed a step jumping into the series mid stream. It didn't take away from my enjoyment one bit. Stalker feels very similar to Larsson and Nesbo in ratcheting up the tension. No lie there. Stalker is an extreme roller coaster ride. What a marvel! Plenty of suspense, angst and violent bits. If you are squeamish there are a few passages that might be troubling. This book mainly focuses on Margot Siverman, Jooona Linna and their police investigation into finding a serial killer stalker. It's a terrifically immersive read. At the height of the climax I was so wrapped up in the story I couldn't bother with making dinner. Scandi thrillers really are brilliant to behold and Stalker certainly does not disappoint. There's a lot of meat to this story which made it difficult to put down. I'm so pleased to have finally discovered Lars Kepler. I've got to keep my eyes open for his past and future works. A really gripping thriller that raises the bar.

I usually read short stories but this big book was worth the time. Absolutely excellent! I finished it earlier today and I'm still thinking about it! 100% buy this book if you like thrillers.

Stalker is the first book I have read by Lars Kepler although I do have an earlier book from the series. I wish I had read at least that one, then I would have understood these characters much more. It took me a while to appreciate Joona. It was his character I wish I’d known more about. What he was like before his family were torn apart by danger and threats. I liked him, I wanted him to succeed and be proven right. I didn’t want him to feel let down by somebody who was a friend. I do read a lot of Scandinavian crime fiction but this one made all of them look like cozy crime. It’s one of the goriest that I have read and some of the worst sides of society are convincingly shown. It was chilling getting to know the victims just before they were attacked and it felt personal. It’s also one, that when I finished I felt drained. Mainly because when the killer was revealed, quite a way before the end, and I saw how insane they were I felt more tense than I have felt in a long time from reading fiction. I’m uncertain as to how many of the other characters have appeared before or how many will be in the next book. There are many who I would like to meet again. It is quite a long book, the longest I’ve read for a while and it did take me a while to get into it. I’m glad I persevered, this is yet another series I plan to catch up on.
