Reviews: Strange Magic (4)
“Strange Magic ”
(Paperback)
A slightly different direction from the first 2 novels, which were brilliant, so maybe not quite as good but all the same a total page turner for me, you need to give it a read
“Unusual”
(Paperback)
Rosie Strange is one of the most unusual characters I've encountered, and I loved her for it. Rosie, along with the plot, is witty and compelling. The story is very intriguing and funny. Strongly recommend.
“Lighthearted, supernatural tale.”
(Paperback)
I enjoyed this as a lighthearted, quick and easy read. Despite claims of feminism, I found this tale anything but. There was an anthropological undertone in the analysis of witchcraft which I found interesting, but the main character was very difficult to relate to. She seemed to swoon and comment on the attractiveness of every male she encountered, which was disappointing.
However, the story was gripping enough for me to continue reading and I would probably read the next in the series as a bit of supernatural fun, but overall I wasn't enamoured with this at all.
“Sadly, a bit of a disapointment”
(Paperback)
Unfortunately, this was one of those books where I really liked the story but didn't like the telling of it. Far too much tell not show and the heavy handed, obvious attempts at feminism by the main character really got on my wick. It's a shame as the story had such promise and it was nice to read an English supernatural crime story that wasn't set in London. Will I give the author a second chance with the next book in the series? I'm really not sure.
