Reviews: Symposium (1)
“The perfect introduction to Socrates’ way of thinking”
(Paperback)
Gill's translation of Plato's 'Symposium' was an absolute delight to read.Discussing views on 'eros' (love or desire) the lovely drinking party attendants including Plato's teacher Socrates each give their opinions on what it is to 'love', the role of sex in society, gender roles and the sublimation of basic human instincts. Both highly enlightening and at times very comical, The Symposium, stands as a fascinating insight into Athenian intellect in Ancient Greece.
