Reviews: The Edge (4)
“Bang on the money!”
(Hardback)
In 2022, David Baldacci published 'The 6:20 Man' – an excellent thriller about ex-soldier Travis Devine who was working as an investment banker on Wall Street and ended up investigating the murder of a friend. The novel finished with Devine being offered a job in Homeland Security, and 'The Edge' is the follow-up. It’s set in a small town in Maine, where Devine is investigating the murder of a female CIA agent and there’s all sorts of skulduggery going on there. Baldacci’s storytelling is always totally reliable – brisk, exciting and well-paced – and this is bang on the money. Travis Devine is rather like an updated version of John Puller (another brilliant Baldacci series). If you enjoy thrillers, read 'The 6:20 Man' first and then follow with this. I loved it.

“Brilliant stories, well written”

As always Baldacci writes a superb story . So clever and intriguing.
“What a writer and what an imagination.”
(Hardback)
Yet another great read from Baldacci. Everything this guy writes, just grabs you by the throat and dont let go till the end. I have 32 0f his titles and love every one of them.
“Excellent Thriller”
(Paperback)
The Edge is the second book in the Travis Devine series written by David Baldacci. The Edge builds on from the 6:20 Man which was an excellent way to introduce this character on the world. This book continues in that vein and is an excellent thriller which also includes a shady American agency which operates in the shadows. Travis Devine is a former Ranger with a rather questionable reason for doing his work. More importantly he is doing work on behalf of the nation while protecting the national security.
Jenny Silkwell has been found murdered on a rocky outcrop on the Maine coastline, she was a high-ranking member of the CIA, and this sets off alsorts of alarm bells. She is not just a dead spook, but her laptop and phone are missing. Travis Devine has been tasked with investigating the murder and if necessary, deal with the killer. When Devine arrives in Putnam, Maine he finds a small town that is full of secrets which watches an outsider’s every move. Everyone has an opinion about the murder of Jenny Silkwell. It does not help that her father was a senator and unfortunately now a resident of a care home, amongst other things.
Complications appear in the form of Alex Silkwell the youngest of the Silkwell family and something had happened to her in the past which she is unable to move on from. It affects her so much she is unable to move away from the family compound and rarely seen around town. Nobody has anything bad to say about her. As Devine begins to investigate further there are people intent on stopping him, he has to work out if it is a hangover from his previous mission or to do with this murder. More questions and bodies appear which points Devine on to the correct path.
This is an excellent thriller and what Baldacci always produces – top notch thrillers.
