I have a real soft spot for books where the FMC is pregnant and the MMC steps up despite not being the bio dad. This book has a purely green flag MMC, Theo who has already been in love with Finley for the past year, though of course she thinks he doesn’t like her. Because he’s already down bad, it does feel rather instalove, but I was happy to roll with it because he is just an adorable himbo who so badly wants to be a dad and take care of Finley. The conflict in the book is pretty much all internal with Finley dealing with past abandonment of father figures and not wanting the same for her daughter. It eventually causes her to feel like she needs to leave first before Theo can abandon her and the baby. For me this was little triggering, it's resolved well but I just always feel really sensitive towards one parent taking away the kid from the other (even if he's not bio dad, at this point it's at least obvious to the reader he is completely all in and in love with both of them). It was definitely a few chapters of me wanting to take Finley and shake her really really hard. Overall this was a really enjoyable, rather tropey read. It's a sports romance, daddy but not the bio daddy, instalove book and it stays true to those tropes. For me it was a great “need to relax and recharge my brain” read, I pretty much devoured it from start to finish in a day. Thanks to Smuthood for the ARC.
