Biologist Helen Ross went to the Montana village of Hope. A pack of wolves had been seen there, animals protected by the US law as endangered species. It will be Helens task to protect them as hunters are a permanent threat. What Helen didn’t know was that about a century ago thousands of wolves had been slaughtered by the villagers of Hope. They still wanted to extinguish these animals on USA territory. Despite Helen’s resistance the wolf pack should share the same fate. A love affair made the situation even more complicated. “The Loop” by Nicholas Evans is a fascinating book describing emotionally Helen Ross’ struggle to ensure the survival of the wolves. I enjoyed the brilliant descriptions of the Montana landscape and the life of the wild animals. The Loop doesn’t reach the high quality of The Horse Whisperer but it is worth reading.
