Reviews: The Lover’s Dictionary (5)
“My favourite book”
(Paperback)
by Joanna B
I absolutely adore this book - a real love story, probably the most romantic work of fiction I have ever read. Levithan writes beautifully and captures all of those unforgettable moments that occur in a relationship. It is such a personal book I feel he must have used his own experience to write with such accuracy and detail. Surprisingly, despite the fact that it is so incredibly romantic, it lacks the false, 'gooey' sentimentality that appears in many works of fiction, and I think that is because Levithan writes from a male perspective and writes simply and from the heart. He could not make up the simplicity of some feelings and complexities of others. This is a book filled with love, humour and humanity. It will have you laughing on one page and crying when you turn over. This is due to its fantastically original layout (the relationship is told through the alphabet rather than chronologically) which disorientates you for brief moments throughout, but in the most wonderful way! It is just like looking back on a relationship and prioritising certain memories. You don't think back in an ordered manner - your thoughts tend to follow a path conjured up by association. I really can't recommend this book highly enough. A must read for all!

“The Lover's Dictionary”
(Paperback)
by Ben Keenan at Bury St Edmunds Buttermarket
'I love you' is one of the worlds most uttered sentences but occasionally is said for all the wrong reasons. The nameless narrator of this wonderful new book has gone back to the absolute start of the journey we take when in love and has structured the adventure as part of the alphabet. From Antiperspirant to Zenith, the story weaves together how it feels to love and be loved in such a beautifully tender way that the reader is warmed through by the time you get to the letter B. With a lightness of touch often misunderstood by modern contemporary authors, The Lover's Dictionary is one of the best things you'll read all year which I guarantee you'll remember fondly all year round and recommend to everyone you know!
“Something a little bit different”
(Paperback)
by Lexie Lannon
This book is charming, written in little snippets we learn about a relationship. At times it is a little confusing as it is not in chronological order, but I actually think that is what makes the book good. It's not all love and romance, there are moments of sadness and anger just like in a real relationship. If you're looking for a quick read I really would recommend this.
