This book is wonderful! It is beautifully written (and well-translated from German), told from the perspective of a seemingly usual young girl about a highly unusual dinner-time in her family household. Lots of mussels and alcohol involved! The story unravels with marvellous suspense, fabulous detail, and the sort of heart-breaking realism that only a writer with a poetic eye and an honest heart can achieve. I rarely re-read my books but I think I'll definitely be reading this one again.
