The Dennis Milne character is a real classic, part cop, part killer! Its a great idea and suits Kernicks compelling earthy style. This was one of my favourits reads in 2011 along with Georgie Kimpton's A Controlled Environment which is written in a very similar style. If you like a bit of grime with your crime, you'll love this one!

I started reading Simon Kernick's books only after picking up "Severed" on a whim. I've been hooked ever since and I've followed the story of his main protagonists through all their thrilling adventures. In The Payback, we meet Tina Boyd - maverick, ballsy, unconventional cop - and Dennis Milne - former cop turned hitman - as their paths cross in pursuit of the ever-elusive Paul Wise. As with all of Simon's books, this one rattles along at an incredible pace, with the tension never letting up. I could have easily read this in a single sitting if work hadn't got in the way! Highly recommended. When's the next one out?!

It's official Simon Kernick is now at the forefront of my favorite crime writing. Excellent character in Dennis Milne that just keeps you turning page after page. A fantastic book that leaves you a little sad to have finished it.

Loved the book - but was not impressed at the ending

Fast paced and exciting. It took just a few hours to travel from the UK to far more exotic climes with the stars of this gripping tale. i could not put the book down and was slightly disappointed that I had reached the end. HOW LONG UNTIL THE NEXT BOOK SIMON??
