Reviews: The Plus One Pact (4)
“A Wonderful Read”
(Paperback)
I have read Portia's books before and I always enjoy them. I loved this story from start to finish. Cara and Millsy chemistry was fantastic as they pretended to be a couple and were just best friends. Fun and enjoyable.
“Warm and adventurous”
(Paperback)
What a story, I started this audiobook as I needed a road trip filler when I was in Malaysia (I was sitting in a separate car from my children). It was quite a fun book, adventurous, characters aren’t what they seem initially, I was pleasantly surprised re main character most of the way through. This book is quite warm. I found the bit just before the ending was a little abrupt (that’s all I can say without giving out spoiler.
Karen Cass has a clear voice narrating it, superb for road trip listening.
“A fun and lighthearted read”
(Paperback)
I read the synopsis for ‘The Plus One Pact’ and it certainly sounded like just the kind of light hearted, fun, uncomplicated read that I so desperately needed at that moment in time. I wasn’t wrong either because ‘The Plus One Pact’ really was a fun read and I enjoyed every single second of it but more about that in a bit.
I love the way in which Portia creates characters that are your ‘girl next door types’. In fact it doesn’t take you long to feel as though they have fast become your friends. That’s exactly how I felt about Cara. I could easily imagine that I was sat having a cuppa and a natter with Cara. I kept my fingers crossed that things would work out for Cara and that she would get the ‘happy ever after’ ending that she so deserved. What happens? Well you are just going to have to read the book for yourselves to find out as I am not going to tell you.
It didn’t take me long to get into this book. In fact by the time I got to the end of the first ten pages, I knew that I was going to find it increasingly difficult to put the book to one side for any length of time. I picked the book up only intending to get the first couple of chapters read but I became so absorbed in the story that I read a lot more chapters than I had intended. In fact I found every excuse that I could to get back to reading this fun book. ‘The Plus One Pact’ was one of those books that you wanted to finish because you needed to know how the story concluded but at the same time you don’t want it to end because you are enjoying the book too darn much. That’s how I felt at any rate. They say that laughter is the best medicine and this book had me laughing out loud on more than one occasion, so yes this book was the tonic that I so badly needed.
‘The Plus One Pact’ is really well written but then I have thought that to be true of all of Portia’s books that I have managed to read to date. She creates characters that are impossible to dislike and describes those characters so well that they seem just as real as you and I. Portia draws you into the story from pretty early on and then takes you for on one hell of a fun adventure. I was gripped by the story and on the edge of my seat for the majority of the time. I really did feel as though I was part of the story and that is all down to Portia’s realistic and very vivid storytelling.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘The Plus One Pact’ and I would definitely recommend this book to other readers. I will be reading more of Portia’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 4* out of 5*.a
“Predictable and Plain”
(Paperback)
A little bit like background shopping precinct music - it’s there - it’s beige - it trots predictably along. The Plus One Pact is an easy to read romance - especially if you’re a teenager!
The plot machinations are as subtle as a brick! Honestly, the way Cara nearly stumbles into a pond, just so Millsy’s handsome step brother can rescue her ( Q - annoyed jealousy from Millsy ), is somewhat ridiculous!
If you can accept the contrived, two dimensional behaviour then read on!
