Now and again I come across a book that totally takes me by surprise. I knew The Wife’s Shadow had already received some pretty good reviews but I wasn’t prepared for just how good this book was. The narrative starts off from the first-person perspective of Suzy, where we see her going to some kind of therapy. On the surface, Suzy has it all, cute kids, loving husband, good friends, nice home, growing business – but there’s something from her past that she’s kept secret from her husband, and now juxtaposed to her perfect life there is an ex-boyfriend and a stalker thrown into the mix. The story starts off at a good pace, intriguing enough to hook you in but not overly so. The writing is good: characterisation and dialogue is real; sentence structure is varied with a good balance of showing and telling which gives just the right amount of pacing. But with such a twisty plot wow those pages soon start turning, and before you know it everything has gone on hold because you just can’t put this book down! The Wife’s Shadow has twists galore and Suzy’s perfect life is not as it first seems. I did have my suspicion over one of the characters but was genuinely surprised at most of the twists. As a book-blogger I get to read some pretty amazing books but this one is right at the top of the pile. Another one that, as a new writer, I have really been able to learn from.

Draws you in very slowly, giving you little titbits of information to keep you guessing. Then out of no where the truth of the story unravels. Can you put it down - NO Do you want to put it down - NO This will definitely be one for the holiday read list. It appears Suzy's life is not what it seems .After her Mother dies her life takes a downward spiral when weird things happen and she feels she is being stalked.Suzy works ,she has a Deli her husband Mike an ex policeman is a stay at home husband after an injury at work .All was happy in their perfect lives until now when everything changes .Suzy's Mother was abused by her husband and she took the young Suzy and ran away and changed their names so now she is wondering if her Dad has found her ?This is a gripping story of secrets ,lies and heartbreak ,although I found the beginning a little slow the story soon picks up and it is very hard to put down .The ending for me was very unexpected . The Wife’s Shadow was on the whole an enjoyable, easy read. Suzy Taylor comes from an abusive broken family background, But she has rebuilt her life, is successful in business and has a family of her own, when her mother suddenly passes away. Her grief manifests into apparently imagining a stalker, and slowly her life begins to fall apart. It works well, flicking between the slight past and the present, and building intrigue by not disclosing what or who the main character is visiting during the present day chapters However I found it a little on the “lite” side of psychological thrillers, and somewhat predictable - I had guessed the ending well before it came.
