As someone who’s been a listener of John Robins and his various content over the last 10 years it was eye opening to hear a more in depth understanding of the challenges he’s been dealing with. Although I didn’t personally relate to the alcoholic tropes, it has made me reconsider the addictive qualities of social media and how moderation isn’t always an option for some. It’s helped me take the step to actually delete some apps rather than constantly blocking them for certain hours of the day, only to unblock them in moments of weakness. Fantastically written with compassion for the self and humour through-out.

What an amazing read, I’m a slow reader but this had me reading for hours at a time. An honest insight into the struggles of an alcoholic and an inspiring story of the journey to recovery. Highly recommend reading this no matter your relationship with alcohol.

I love this book! Read it in 3 days. It has such a different perspective on addiction and alcoholism. So honest, raw and incredibly funny at the same time. Very well researched, John credits other authors and extensively other addicts that he clearly values so much in his life now. It made me cry, and laugh and I have thought about it every day since putting the book down. It is full of tips to improve every life, alcoholic or not. And importantly completely non judgmental. Highly recommended!

What a book. Brutal, heartbreaking and deeply honest, John's ability to write so wisely, examine his deepest self so perceptively, and then be able to make it funny is something very special. A really insightful tale of addiction, his relationship with alcohol and then the road to recovery, it pulls no punches but has John's trademark humour running through it. Candid, emotionally intelligent, moving and hilarious in equal measure this book is going to help so many people understand something of alcoholism.

Like every great eulogy, it has light and dark. Thanks to it's darkest moments, I feel like I have a better insight into how my sister (who has now been sober about the same about of time as John) may have been feeling when alcohol was holding her hostage, and a whole host of new questions I want to ask her about that time. She is my hero, so that is the most valuable thing in the world to me. In its lightest moments, I have been trying my best (and failing) not to laugh out loud on the tube like a mad woman - John's comedic voice keeping you company throughout just makes this a truly delightful read.
