Reviews: This Charming Man (1)
“Another great Marian Keyes book”
(Paperback)
I enjoyed this book - Marian Keyes always manages to deal with serious issues without making the whole book depressing. It's quite a dark storyline but it's well balanced with plenty of humorous episodes in between the shocking or emotional ones. There's a lot going on in this story, but I always felt connected to each of the individual plotlines.
Each of the characters has their own unique voice which are all written in a different style (and printed in a different font!) which was quite clever and for the most part worked very well. However, I found it slightly difficult and irritating reading the "Lola" bits, because they were written in a really short, snappy diary style, with lots of missing words and incomplete sentences. It didn't flow well and wasn't that easy to read. But overall, I really enjoyed this book, which was funny, shocking at times and thought provoking - worth reading.
