“Creative Control”
(Paperback)
When newly qualified history teacher Aaron Page takes a temp job as a PA, he finds he is working for the creator of his favourite TV show. A show Aaron writes fanfic for. Brilliant but demanding Lewis Hunter goes through PAs like a hot knife through butter. Few last more than a week. But he soon realises Aaron is different. Fast-forward three years, the two are still working together, and Aaron has become not just a PA but an indispensable tool Lewis is possessive and reliant on... Now they've got to spend the weekend together.
Total Creative Control is a traditional slow-burn, angsty MM office romance. It contains numerous tropes of the genre but utilises them in an effective and, at times, satirical way.
The concept of creativity runs throughout the story: Lewis's passion and possessiveness of his creation and Aaron's fan fiction. This becomes an analogy for their relationship — but never becomes a cliche. I loved Lewis's slow realisation of what fan fiction is and means and Skye and Faolán's role in his relationship with Aaron.
I was disappointed when the novel ended, and although it has a tidy finale, I would not mind reading more on Lewis and Aaron.
