I read this more or less when it first came out, and even now I get a buzz every time I see it on my bookshelf. It is such an original storyline, so well thought-out and hooking that every new development and twist and turn is a joy. Based in a village in England, it centres around ancient history and archaeology mingled with legend and a dash of the supernatural. Characterisation is great throughout and the mystery elements are revealed cleverly and at just the right time. just basically sublime. I simply wish it was as widely read as it should be.
