Trumbo is the full glamour and grime of a life caught in the highs and lows of twentieth century America. Bruce Cook’s book does justice to a fascinating and irascible character, whose determined individualism saw him take on a powerful political establishment. First published in 1977, this has been re-released because of a movie adaptation with man of the moment Bryan (chewed more scenery than Godzilla, in said movie) Cranston. No idea what the film is like, but the book is as good as David Thomson’s Rosebud or William Goldman’s Adventures in the Screen Trade. And better than Easy Riders, Raging Bulls, which is good, but people do go on about it a bit too much. For anyone interested in Hollywood and American History and Politics.
