Reviews: Tyrant (1)
“"I am myself alone."”
(Hardback)
by Paul S. at Lancaster
This is a really enjoyable read. Greenblatt draws some delightful parallels between Shakespeare's villains and one world leader in particular, which is enormously entertaining, and Greenblatt does a remarkable job examining the minds and tactics of contemporary autocrats through Shakespeare's histories and tragedies. A few of his peripheral claims are slightly undercooked and the book hovers a little awkwardly in the gap between literary and political criticism, but nevertheless an entertaining book. This is a review of a complimentary proof from Vintage Publishing.
